Legal Name: Stuart Tilton
Derby Name: Artimus Pyledriver
What is the meaning behind your derby name?
Artimus Pyle was a drummer for Lynyrd Skynyrd. A stoner rock band from Georgia appropriated his name, calling themselves Artimus Pyledriver. Then they broke up (their Myspace page may still be viewable) and I stole their name.
Why Roller Derby? Refereeing?
Roller Derby is a great puzzle.
My wife says I should do puzzles so that I do not get Alzheimer's.
Do you have any pre bout rituals? What are they for Home and Away Bouts?
I usually have to poop before a bout. I also try to get someone to tape up my ankles.
What advice would you have for anyone interested in derby?
If you aspire to be a Roller Derby referee, first you need to be able to skate well enough that you do not need to think about your skating while you are refereeing. Second, you must be teachable and make yourself available to be taught in whatever ways that you are able to. This includes, making yourself available to neighboring leagues and traveling to be of service to leagues in the region. Above all: Officials are volunteers to be of Service to the sport. Finally: read the rules and have fun!
In a few words can you explain how derby has affected your life?
Roller Derby has given me many layers of personal relationships with other people. Roller Derby camaraderie is real and it is rich. When I am on skates, I feel like I am flying.
What are your future derby ambitions?
I hope to become a certified referee, but really I just hope to receive the continued blessings to be able to officiate the sport.
Who do you admire in Roller Derby?
I admire my wife, Demon Cleaner 918. She is my best friend.
